Overal ter wereld hoor je het ritme van riemen, het zachte klotsen bij de uitpik, het moment van stilte voor de haal. Dit is waar we elkaar bij de Amstel in vinden: jong en oud, beginner en ervaren, Nederlands of internationaal.
Het enthousiasme voor het roeien is de afgelopen weken duidelijk zichtbaar geweest. Tijdens de DinHO stapten er maar liefst 180 jeugdroeiers in de boot en op de ergo. Op het zonnige terras en langs de kant was het een drukte van jewelste. Ik heb genoten! Bij de Tromp Boat Races en de Novembervieren lagen verschillende Amstelboten aan de start en op 29 oktober werd er zelfs gestemd op de Amstel - weer eens wat anders dan biljarten, borrelen, eten of roeien.
Gefeliciteerd aan iedereen die de afgelopen weken is afgeroeid en heel veel succes aan iedereen die komend weekend nog mag laten zien wat ze kunnen!
Ook de groep Amstelleden tussen de twintig en vijfendertig groeit. Voor veel nieuwe leden is niet alleen de vereniging, maar ook de stad nog nieuw. Samen met de JongAmstel commissie proberen we deze groep te verbinden met elkaar, de roeiwereld en natuurlijk met de Amstel zelf. Zo zie je ons op dinsdagavonden op de ergometer of in het krachthonk.
Als laatste waaien er frisse winden door de Amstel en vanaf de ALV van 29 november ook officieel door het bestuur. Ik weet dat ik voor velen een nieuw gezicht ben. Spreek me vooral aan - ook als ik net bezweet van de ergo of uit de boot stap - ik hoor graag waarom de Amstel voor jou voelt als thuis of hoe ik daaraan kan bijdragen!

Foreword from the (upcoming) Vice-Chair
All around the world, you can hear the rhythm of the oars, the soft splash at the finish, the moment of silence before the next stroke. That’s what connects us at the Amstel: young and old, beginners and experienced rowers, Dutch and international members alike.
The enthusiasm for rowing has been clearly visible in recent weeks. During the DinHO, more than 180 youth rowers took to the water and the ergometers. The sunny terrace and riverbanks were buzzing with activity. At the Tromp Boat Races and the NovemberVieren several Amstel crews competed, and on October 29, it was even possible to cast your vote for the national elections at the club - something a bit different from billiards, drinks, dinner, or rowing.
Congratulations to everyone who has recently passed their rowing tests, and best of luck to those showing their skills this coming weekend!
The group of Amstel members aged between twenty and thirty-five is also growing. For many of these new members, not only the club but also the city is new. Together with the Jong Amstel committee, we aim to connect this group with each other, with the rowing community, and of course with the Amstel itself. You can find us on Tuesday nights on the ergs or in the gym.
Finally, fresh winds are blowing through the Amstel, and after the General Assembly on November 29, officially through the board as well. I know I’m a new face to many of you, so please come and say hi — even if I’ve just stepped off the erg or out of the boat. I’d love to hear what makes the Amstel feel like home for you, or how I can help contribute to that feeling.
